Scottie Scheffler recently clarified that he doesn’t play golf for money. The World No. 1 said so in the pre-tournament press conference at the 2024 Hero World Challenge. The tournament will begin on Thursday, December 5, and go on till Sunday, December 8 at the Albany Golf Course in Nassau, Bahamas.

Scheffler won the 2023 Hero World Challenge by three strokes over Sepp Straka and would look to win this year too. He said that his passion for golf outweighs any financial incentives as money is just a bonus. He said (via Golf Digest):

“As far as I’m concerned, I don’t play golf for money. I’ve been playing golf my whole life for free. And the money’s just a bonus. And so if somebody wants to pay us to come out here and play golf, then that’s great. I’m not gonna say no to it. I’m gonna do the best I can in my community to steward that money well.”

Scottie Scheffler has had a terrific 2024 season and earned $62.2 million this year, including the PGA Tour earnings. He further said:

“And I wanna win just as bad for zero dollars as I do for whatever millions of dollars it is. The money’s not my motivation. And so I don’t, it’s not something I think about. It’s just a bonus that happens when you’re out here playing tournaments. It’s a very nice thing to have.”

Scheffler’s official earnings on the PGA Tour were $29.2 million. Further, he won $25 million for bagging the FedEx Cup and $8 million more for staying on the top of the FedExCup standings in the Comcast Business Tour Top 10.
