Jordan Spieth has already warned Caitlin Clark about Tom Brady’s golf mindset
Iowa point guard and WNBA star Clark is teeing off at the RSM Classic Pro-Am this week, but will have to contend with Tom Brady’s fiercely competitive spirit.
WNBA star Caitlin Clark has been given a heads up about Tom Brady’s intense competitive nature as they prepare to compete in the RSM Classic Pro-Am this week. The event is another golfing challenge for the renowned point guard, who recently impressed at the ANNIKA Pro-Am in Florida.
This time around, however, she’ll be facing off against one of the greatest sports icons of all time – and one known for his relentless competitiveness. Seven-time Super Bowl champion and current FOX Sports NFL commentator Brady, 47, was spotted teeing off with world No. 5 golfer Ludvig Aberg.
Golfing pros Jordan Spieth and Keegan Bradley have previously commented on Brady’s drive to win, giving Clark an idea of what she might be up against if she goes head-to-head with the former New England Patriots star.
Former Masters champion Spieth once shared a story about playing a round with the legendary quarterback, revealing that his hopes for a relaxed game and a pleasant lunch didn’t quite pan out.
Spieth recalled that during a match at Augusta National with Brady, the game was tied going into the 18th hole, but the PGA star came out on top. However, the ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneers player didn’t take the loss well, reports the Mirror.
“You’re supposed to go in at Augusta and have lunch and hang out, and he didn’t say a word to me for like an hour and a half,” Spieth shared with American sports commentator Dan Patrick. “I feel like I’m very, very competitive. He is the most competitive human being I’ve ever met.”
It’s not just Spieth who has spoken of Brady’s need to win. PGA regular Bradley once opened upon a time that not only revealed his laser focus, but also his skills with a club.
Bradley, who grew up in New England and consequently was a fan of Brady, ran into the football legend on holiday in the Bahamas. The pair then set up a match and he agreed to give Brady, who plays off an eight handicap, 12 shots.
However, just like for Spieth, Brady didn’t stick to the script.
“I win the first hole. I go, ‘TB, I’ll give you a buyout if you want,'” Bradley said on GOLF’s Subpar podcast. “I just start chirping. And then he runs off and plays the next 14 holes in four under par. Beats me six and five. He’s really good. I couldn’t believe it. Those competitive juices kicked in and he smoked me.”
Clark, who has gone on record about her love for golf, was paired with fellow Iowa native and PGA player Zach Johnson for the event.
