Jon Rahm skips $9 million Tour return after Ryder Cup future confirmed

Jon Rahm has played on the DP World Tour three times in recent weeks to ensure he keeps hold of his Tour membership and is eligible to compete in next year’s Ryder Cup

Jon Rahm will not compete at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship on the DP World Tour next week, despite doing enough to earn a spot in the playoff event.

The DP World Tour season will come to an end in the Middle East this month, first with a trip to Abu Dhabi, before the campaign finale at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The top 70 players on the circuit a handed a spot for the Abu Dhabi event, with Rahm finishing the regular season in 34th.

Despite this, the former Masters champion will not be teeing it up in the $9 million, with his name absent from the tournament entry list released earlier this week.

Rahm’s absence comes after the Spaniard had competed in three DP World Tour events in recent weeks. Having spent the majority of his year with LIV Golf, the Legion XIII captain returned for his event at the Spanish Open, as well as competing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the Andalucia Masters.

His Tour return was an important one, with his three starts ticking off his four-event tally for the year, ensuring he keeps hold of his DP World Tour membership and is therefore eligible to compete in next year’s Ryder Cup.Having completed his quota, Rahm has opted to skip the playoffs.

It comes after Rahm and his wife Kelley recently welcomed their third child into the world, with Alaia born just days before the Legion XIII skipper was required to jet back to Europe for his home event in Spain. So blessed to have welcomed our daughter Alaia Cahill Rahm into the world last week,” Rahm tweeted last month.
