Scottie Scheffler is looking to win the lucrative FedEx Cup for the first time in his career, but the American appeared to injure his back near the end of his round on Thursday

Scottie Scheffler insisted he is “fine” after appearing to wince in agony with a back injury at the BMW Championship.

The world No. 1 wanted to add another birdie to his tally on the 17th at Castle Pines Golf Club. Upon striking his ball off the fairway with a 5-iron, Schefflerwinced and grabbed his lower back.

For PGA Tour and golf fans around the world, this was a concerning sight. Tiger Woods often grabbed his lower back after playing shots, and his back derailed the 15-time major champion’s career by proving troublesome.

However, Scheffler insisted he is alright heading into the second round. The two-time Masters champion played down his pain and suggested his back was simply more troublesome than usual on Thursday.

Yeah, it’s fine,” Scheffler said. “I woke up just a little sore this morning. I had trouble loosening it up. With it being a little bit tight, it was hard for me to get through it, and I was laboring most of the day to get through the ball.
