Bryson DeChambeau must break his own LIV Golf record to reclaim title

Bryson DeChambeau may be five shots off the pace at LIV Golf Greenbrier, but the Crushers captain remains well in the hunt heading into Sunday

Bryson DeChambeau may be trailing by seven shots at LIV Golf Greenbrier going into Sunday, but if past performances are anything to go by, the Crushers captain is still very much in contention.

DeChambeau posted a two-under-par 68 in Friday’s opening round, with five birdies and three bogeys across his first 18 holes of the week. He then posted a five-under round on Saturday in a bogey-free 18 to leave him seven behind Jon Rahm.

DeChambeau entered this week’s event as the reigning champion, having secured his first LIV Golf title at the West Virginia course, finishing five shots ahead of Mito Pereira last season.

The manner in which the US Open champion claimed the trophy was what was most impressive, having shot a record-breaking 12-under 58 in last year’s final round – LIV’s first-ever round below 60. Although he currently sits tied for 24th, his previous experiences at the Greenbrier track could prove beneficial.

This time last year, DeChambeau found himself in a similar position, tied for 25th after 18 holes in 2023. He also began his week with a two-under 68, before shooting a seven-under 61 the following day, and breaking 60 just 24 hours later in the final round.

Discussing last campaign’s heroics earlier this week, DeChambeau believes he and his fellow players could well go lower. “I believe there will be a 57 at some point,” he said pre-tournament. “Even a 56 potentially. I think a 57 has been potentially shot on other tours before, but it’s going to just get more consistent over the course of time.
