Xander Schauffele is the 2024 Open Championship winner. The 30-year-old demonstrated great skills in the final round to take home the title by a two-stroke margin.

The PGA Tour star earned his second Major title of the season at the Royal Troon. Schauffele took home a massive cheque worth $3.1 million and the prestigious Claret Jug trophy along with the title of ‘Champion Golfer of the Year’.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the two-time Major championship winner listed the beverages he drank out of the Claret Jug following a great week at the Royal Troon Golf Club. Here’s what Schauffele had to say about the first drink that was poured in:

Red wine was the first thing poured in. My dad’s traditional in that sense and he said only wine’s going to go in.”

Schauffele honored his father Stefan Schauffele’s “traditional” wishes. The nine-time PGA Tour winner added that he continued the celebrations after his father had left.

In the past, Open Championship winners have been known to celebrate their victory with a drink of champagne from their trophy. Schauffele said he chose to pour some tequila in the Claret Jug. He was quoted as saying:

My dad’s not with me now and some tequila was put in it last night.”

Xander Schauffele is set to represent Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics next week. He aims to be the first player to win back-to-back gold medals at the world’s most prestigious competition.
