Xander Schauffele’s father sent brutal LIV Golf message to Greg Norman before Open win

Xander Schauffele’s father has revealed that he sent LIV Golf a message to say that his son would only consider a move to the breakaway league if there was no path back to the PGA Tour.

After triumphing at Royal Troon and clinching the Open title, Xander Schauffele seems to have put any speculation about him joining the LIV Golf tour to bed.

The 30-year-old American has cast aside his ‘nearly-man’ persona in a standout year, seizing his second major championship win of the season in Scotland this past weekend. Schauffele captured the prestigious Claret Jug with style, carding a nine under 275 to claim a two-stroke triumph over the field.

Still riding high from his PGA Championship victory in May, Schauffele’s stellar season has vaulted him to the world No. 2 spot.

Despite the lure of riches from Saudi Arabia, it looks like the 12-time PGA Tour event champion isn’t tempted by the financial incentives to join the ranks of defectors.

Golfing stars such as Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Lee Westwood have been enticed away by the PIF-backed venture in recent times. However, according to his father, the monetary allure of LIV Golf doesn’t seem sufficient to sway Schauffele from his path.

In a frank discussion with Golf.com, Stefan Schauffele shared insights into his son’s perspective, dismissing outright the notion of a switch. He declared: “No chance. Xander is not chasing the money. Xander is about legacy. And as my opinion – just as his father – there was never a chance.”

“What we told LIV in Saudi Arabia, with Xander beside me, was that if there is no path back to the PGA Tour and if there is no chance at World Ranking points, we do not have anything to talk about. Even if you throw hundreds of millions of dollars at him. That word still stands. I am not called The Ogre without reason. I keep my one word.”
