5 disastrous shots at the Open Championship ft. Scottie Scheffler

Xander Schauffele came out on top at The 2024 Open Championship, winning the prestigious Claret Jug trophy to record his second major championship triumph of the season.

While Schauffele delivered a world-class performance at the Royal Troon Golf Club, several of the world’s best players failed to step up their game. Scotland’s harsh weather conditions proved to be a challenge for the 156-player field, and several were unable to adapt to the circumstances on the course.

Here’s a look into the worst shots played at The Open Championship in South Ayrshire, Scotland.

1 Scottie Scheffler

The 72nd hole of The Open Championship proved to be a disaster for Scottie Scheffler. Following his double bogey on the ninth hole of the final round, the American went on to repeat the same mistakes on the 18th hole.

The Royal Troon’s par four 18th hole saw Scheffler hit one of his worst tee shots of the season. On the 459 yard hole, he looked to play an iron off the tee following poor shots with his driver earlier in the day. The world number one did not make strong contact with the ball, resulting in a shot that only travelled 176 yards and landed in the native area to the left of the hole.
