Bryson DeChambeau’s LIV Golf decision saw him turn back on ‘greatest honour’

Bryson DeChambeau was left fuming after he was snubbed for a Ryder Cup wildcard pick last year, having previously described the tournament as the “greatest honour” of his career

Bryson DeChambeau once admitted he considered playing for Team USA at the Ryder Cup the “greatest honor” of his career – but controversially turned his back on the tournament to join LIV Golf.

The golfer, a winner of two major championships, had previously donned the stars and stripes twice against Team Europe, boasting an unbeaten record at the 2021 edition. Yet, his move to the Saudi Arabian-backed circuit in June 2022 dashed any hopes of teeing off again in Rome for the USA last year.

DeChambeau’s switch came with a hefty price tag, as he was reportedly lured by a $125 million offer to defect to the PIF-sponsored tour. Despite this, just over a year after his pivotal decision, Team USA skipper Zach Johnson selected another LIV Golf player, Brooks Koepka, as his captain’s pick for the event at Marco Simone.
