Jordan Spieth must address potential off-the-course issue for the first time in 20 years before the 2026 PGA Tour season
The 2025 PGA Tour season was a real struggle for Jordan Spieth, despite the fact that he said he was happy with the direction he was heading.
With 13 PGA Tour wins to his name, Spieth is one of the most successful players in the professional game but remarkably, he is without a victory since April 2022.
Spieth is an incredibly hard worker away from tournament weeks, but the effort he has put in has been for scant reward recently.
Over the past few years, it has seemed like the harder the 32-year-old works on his game, the more problems he develops.
Despite his struggles since his last win at the RBC Heritage in 2022, the American has never lost faith.
In fact, Spieth recently insisted he has the ambition to become world number one again but in truth, that seems a long way off right now.
While he’s not the player he once was, Spieth still has enough talent to compete regularly and win again on the PGA Tour.
However, in order to do just that, he should consider making one big change away from the golf course.

The impression with Spieth is that sometimes he is banging his head against a brick wall, to put it bluntly.
The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.
Perhaps it’s time for a change, and a good start for the 32-year-old would be to switch coaches.
Spieth has been with his coach Cameron McCormick for 20 years. However, sometimes a fresh pair of eyes is required.
Back in May, Rich Beem actually suggested Spieth should take a break from McCormick.
He said: “You know, the interesting thing after watching Jordan for years and years. He’s got Cameron McCormick who’s been with him since he was a little kid. If you look at Jordan’s short game it’s all feel, everything about it is feel. But when you look at his rehearsal swing, he’s trying to do something, trying to put it in position, instead of getting up there and just free-wheeling it you know.
“I don’t know if it’s taking a break from an instructor that can help kind of get your mind away from trying to make swings or trying to make feels. It certainly happen with the short game.”
Beem makes a great point here. A new coach with a different philosophy and new ideas may be exactly what Spieth needs.
Missing out on the final two FedEx Cup Playoff events of the season, and indeed the Ryder Cup team, could end up being the best thing that happened to Spieth.
He now has a long off-season to work hard on his game and get 100 per cent healthy ahead of the new season.
There could not be a more perfect time for Spieth to take a new path and try something different in the coaching department.
Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour stats over the last three seasons
Spieth stats in 2025 weren’t actually that bad. However, the most important stat is scoring, and he wasn’t quite good enough to properly contend at any point during the season.
Here are his stats from the PGA Tour in 2025:
| Stats | 2022-23 | 2024 | 2025 |
| Off the tee | 59th | 15th | 30th |
| Approach | 71st | 138th | 56th |
| Around the green | 28th | 108th | 28th |
| Putting | 79th | 101st | 57th |
| Total | 38th | 80th | 15th |
As you can see from those stats, Spieth has been making incremental improvements over the past few years.
It’s also worth noting that he underwent wrist surgery at the end of 2024 as well, so perhaps a bit of patience is needed with the three-time major winner.
However, there is no doubt that a fresh start could do him good ahead of the 2026 PGA Tour season, and a change of coach may well be a good place to start.
