Scottie Scheffler declines to follow Rory McIlroy’s lead following PGA Championship win
Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow on Sunday, and the American has no plans to rest
Scottie Scheffler is poised to diverge from Rory McIlroy’s path, as the American plans to follow his PGA Championship win with an appearance in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
On Sunday at Quail Hollow, Scheffler scored a level-par 71, securing the Wanamaker trophy to add to his two Green Jackets on his resume. The world No. 1 secured a back-to-back victory following his triumph at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson earlier this month.
Entering the final round, Scheffler was three ahead of the competition, leading many to predict a walkover. However, Jon Rahm fought his way into contention before falling behind, allowing Scheffler to become a three-time major champion.
In recent months, Scheffler has seemingly taken a back seat to McIlroy, with the dust still settling from the Northern Irishman’s remarkable Masters win that completed his career Grand Slam.
After his victory, McIlroy opted out of the RBC Heritage to spend time with his family and celebrate.
However, Scheffler doesn’t plan to do the same. The 28 year old is set to compete in this week’s Charles Schwab, despite it being just one week after his PGA Championship win.

While the Charles Schwab Challenge, held annually in Fort Worth at Colonial Country Club, may not be a significant tournament on the PGA Tour, Scheffler enjoys participating as the event takes place in his home state of Texas. Scheffler has also finished second twice.
