Jordan Spieth has not won on the PGA Tour since 2022 when he won the RBC Heritage in a playoff against Patrick Cantlay, and it was all thanks to a piece of advice from his wife, Annie Verret

Jordan Spieth pocketed a hefty $1.4 million thanks to a rare but pivotal piece of advice from his wife, Annie Verret. The two-time Masters champion clinched his 13th and most recent PGA Tour event win at the RBC Heritage in 2022 after a nail-biting playoff against Patrick Cantlay.

Yet, it was the sage counsel from his long-time partner that may have been the key to his triumph, especially after he confessed to being livid with himself for missing an 18-inch putt for par on the final hole of the third round.

“I was about as upset after the round yesterday as I’ve ever been in a golf tournament,” Spieth shared with journalists following his narrow victory over Cantlay.

It was Verret’s succinct seven-word message that realigned Spieth toward success in South Carolina. The 31-year-old acknowledged the significant impact of her words, particularly since he rarely gets feedback on his golf from her, reports the Irish Star.

“Annie told me last night, ‘You need to take 5 seconds now’ – and she never comments on my golf – ‘you need to take 5 seconds, if you miss a putt, before you hit your tap-in,” he said in 2022.

“So, I thought about it today. There were a couple times I was just going to rake it, and I was like, no, I’ve got to take 5 seconds.”

Following his victory, Spieth was greeted by his wife and their then-five-month-old son Sammy on the green. While he did lament his missed putt during the competition, he admitted having his family there helped him unwind from the pressures of the game.
