What Lexi Thompson’s LPGA Schedule May Look Like Amid Stunning Retirement News
Lexi Thompson competed in the LPGA Tour’s 2025 Founders Cup last week, signaling that her retirement from professional golf will not be absolute. During the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open, Thompson announced that the season would be her last as a full-time player.
Speaking from Bradenton Country Club, the Founders Cup venue, Thompson told Golfweek’s Beth Ann Nichols that she is considering playing in the Ford Championship and the JM Eagle LA Championship. If she follows through, she will skip the LPGA Tour’s upcoming three-tournament swing through Asia.
Thanks to her Class A status, Thompson is not required to meet a minimum number of starts to retain her LPGA Tour card. This designation applies to players who have participated in at least 10 tournaments or one-third of the official schedule for four consecutive seasons—a criterion she easily meets.
As a former Chevron Championship winner, Thompson holds a lifetime exemption for the first major of the season. Her likely LPGA Tour schedule for the next two months includes:
Ford Championship (March 27-30)
JM Eagle LA Championship (April 17-20)
Chevron Championship (April 24-27)
Additionally, she is expected to attempt qualification for the U.S. Women’s Open, set for May 29-June 1 at Erin Hills. Currently ranked 50th in the world, Thompson meets the qualification criteria but must remain in the top 75 by March 24 to secure her spot. If she falls outside that range, she will have until May 19 to re-enter and qualify.
Given her strong chances of playing at Erin Hills, Thompson will likely enter at least one of the three tournaments between the Chevron Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open. These include:
ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer (June 6-8)
Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give (June 12-15)
Thompson has also secured a spot in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (June 19-22) by finishing in the top 10 in 2024. Depending on her performance, she may also compete in the season’s final two majors—the Amundi Evian Championship in July and the AIG Women’s Open in August—potentially influencing her tournament schedule later in the year.
This version keeps the details intact while improving clarity, flow, and readability. Let me know if you’d like any further tweaks!
