Jordan Spieth follows Scottie Scheffler lead after drawing up PGA Tour comeback plan

Jordan Spieth has been out of action since August 2024 with a wrist injury, but has announced he will be back for the ATandT Pebble Beach Pro-Am later this month

Jordan Spieth is set to make his return to competitive golf at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in late January, mirroring Scottie Scheffler’s comeback.

After undergoing surgery on his left wrist back in August 2024, he had an unusually tough time that year, bowing out early from the PGA Tour postseason. His game took a hit due to the injury, and so did his performance.

Taking a hiatus seems to have been a sensible move for the 31-year-old who’s now back to practicing. In a chat with The Associated Press, the three-time major champion opened up about his rehab progress and his anticipated comeback, saying, “I think I’m trying to look big picture.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on a hot start. I just want to get back into a rhythm. This is by far the longest I’ve gone between tournament rounds.

“I think the biggest goals for me, I want to feel like I step on the tee and I know I’m one of the best golfers in the world – I have no doubts about that when I step on the tee.

“I want things to be in place where I feel consistent enough to believe that day in and day out. It has to do with being on runs where you’re finishing in the top 10, top 15 every week. I know that feeling. That’s the feeling I want to get back to.”

Despite slipping from No. 43 to No.70 in the world rankings since last season, Spieth credits his time away from golf for helping him reset mentally after one of his career’s longest breaks.

He admitted, “I had some really bad habits for a long time. Whether it was something that would have happened anyway or whether anything in my wrist was causing me to not be able to get into certain positions, I don’t have that issue now. Having to take three months off swinging forces you to come back and be wet concrete.”

Spieth is set to return to action at Pebble Beach alongside Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 golfer who recently underwent surgery for a hand injury caused by a Christmas Day accident involving a piece of glass.

Scheffler had announced earlier this year, “After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal. I am still hopeful to begin my 2025 season at the ATandT Pebble Beach Pro-Am.”

Scheffler is aiming to build on his remarkable 2024 season, which included winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics and victories at the TOUR Championship, Hero World Challenge, and Presidents Cup.
