The two skills Jason Day has which Jordan Spieth once admitted he was very ‘jealous’ of

It is more than a decade since the end of a PGA Tour season in which Jordan Spieth and Jason Day managed to both win five times.

Jordan Spieth certainly enjoyed one of the all-time great years back in 2015. The Texan went into the season having won once on the PGA Tour.

By the end of the year, he had two majors under his belt. He also triumphed at the Valspar Championship, the John Deere Classic and the Tour Championship.

Remarkably, his worst finish in the majors was tied for fourth.

Why Jordan Spieth said he was jealous of Jason Day in 2015

Jason Day‘s year was not far away from being just as impressive. The Australian won the PGA Championship as well as two FedEx Cup playoff events.

He also went on to reach the world number one spot.

And as the pair prepared to play that year’s Australian Open, Spieth explained what had impressed him so much about Day’s game.

“I played a lot of golf with Jason this year and what a nice guy he is,” he said, as reported by ABC.

“At the end of the year, I’ve played with him so often I have dreams of him saying ‘Jords, have a good day today’.

“I’m certainly jealous of how far he hits the ball and how great a ball striker he is.”

“What a fantastic mental game: he’s extremely confident in who he is and how he plays and he’s a big time threat. He’s as big a threat as any.”

How Jason Day and Jordan Spieth have performed since winning 10 times between them in 2015

It has been surprising to see just how much the pair have struggled since, with both dealing with injury at times. Spieth’s victory at the 2017 Open Championship is the only other major either player has won since 2015.

Meanwhile, Day’s triumph at the AT&T Byron Nelson in 2023 remains the last time either player has managed to win on the PGA Tour.

Their 2025 records look extremely similar, with both Spieth and Day registering four top 10s on the PGA Tour this past season. Meanwhile, they have eight top 25 finishes.

Spieth has fallen to 66th in the world rankings, while Day is still inside the top 50. Spieth will have his work cut out trying to make his way into the signature events in 2026.
