Get to Know Scottie Scheffler’s Family

From his parents Scott and Diane to his three sisters, get to know the pro golfer’s family.

Scottie Scheffler continues his successful golf season, his family—wife Meredith Scheffler (née Scudder), parents Diane and Scott, and his three sisters—are cheering him on. “He’s just a nice young kid,” his dad Scott Scheffler said. “Born in New Jersey and raised in Texas. He’s got a little bit of both, which is wonderful. Just our son and Meredith’s husband and now I guess he’s the world’s.”

Diane and Scott, were both born and raised in New Jersey (she in Park Ridge and he in Englewood Cliffs), and they started their family in the Garden State. It was also in New Jersey where Scott taught his son and three daughters how to golf. They would go to the Bergen Community College golf course at night, and Scott would hold a flashlight for his kids to hit in the dark. “The police would kick us off, and we’d come back on, then the police would kick us off again,” Scott recalled to NJ.com. “Then one day, the guy [at the course] finally came out and I said, ‘Could you just watch for a minute?’ And he’s like, ‘Wow. He’s really good at this!’ Then they wouldn’t bother us any more.”

When Scottie was 6, the Schefflers moved from Montvale, New Jersey to Dallas, Texas for his mom’s job. “They took a pretty big risk moving their whole family across the country,” Scottie told the PGA Tour website. “I think we were 8, 6, 4 and 2 when we moved, so that’s a pretty big change, especially when you’ve got the 8 and the 6-year-old in school, and you take them out of school in the middle of the year.”

Diane worked for various law firms, including Skadden, Thompson & Knight LLP, Troutman Sanders LLP, and Foley Hoag LLP over the course of her career while his dad was a stay-at-home parent. Having his dad as his primary caregiver “wasn’t unusual,” Scottie said. “I didn’t know any different,” he told the Associated Press. “Fortunately for me, I grew up with three sisters and my dad was there, and he did a great job raising us.”

Scottie and Meredith met in high school at Highland Park High School. “At the beginning of high school I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously,” she told Golf Digest. “Even when he had amazing accomplishments, that wasn’t the most important thing about him.”

They dated long distance throughout college, and married in December 2020. They welcomed their first child, a son named Bennett, in May 2024.
