Ben Griffin makes comment about Scottie Scheffler as he admits what was ‘crazy’ about his own final round at the Charles Schwab Challenge

Ben Griffin made it two wins for the year on the PGA Tour as he followed up his win at The Zurich Classic to land the Charles Schwab Challenge and in turn, see off big names like Scottie Scheffler and Rickie Fowler.

Griffin had a healthy lead going into the final day at Colonial Country Club but ended up only winning out by one shot as Matti Schmid pushed him close.

Nevertheless, Griffin is now a PGA Tour winner on his own and he showed great calmness and maturity to roll in his winning putt on 18 after Schmid had made a stunning birdie.

Of course, Griffin was also looking over his shoulder at a certain Scottie Scheffler at one point, even when holding a five shot lead.

And speaking about that lead after his win, Griffin passed comment on Scheffler as he paid the world number one the ultimate compliment.

Griffin was riding high after his win put him alongside Phil Mickelson in the record books and he was more than happy to speak to the media afterwards.

Indeed, when pressed on if he ever felt he’d won it with the five shot lead, Griffin admitted he knew it wasn’t enough, and conceded that there’s only really Scottie Scheffler who has that aura about him when leading.

“Yeah, I wasn’t really thinking…it’s crazy. No lead is ever safe on the PGA Tour. It never is. It can feel like a tournament is done. Maybe if it’s Scottie Scheffler with a five-shot lead it’s done, but for most golfers it doesn’t matter how big your lead is. Things can happen out there,” Griffin admitted.

“I felt really confident. I was trying to keep the pedal down. I kept hitting a lot of drivers and kept trying to give myself birdie putts. I just didn’t give myself a lot of birdie putts. I think I had three birdie putts on my last 12 holes…crazy.”
