Rickie Fowler says there is a hole at Colonial which is one of his least favourite tee shots on the PGA Tour

Rickie Fowler is very nicely placed after the first two rounds of the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.
The Charles Schwab Challenge is finely poised after day two, with Ben Griffin and Matti Schmid leading on 11-under-par.
Fowler is positioned nicely in a tie for seventh at six-under-par alongside Tommy Fleetwood, and the weekend at Colonial Country Club could produce some great entertainment.
Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler is 10 back on one-under-par, but only fools would rule out the three-time major champion just yet.
Of all the big names poised to make a charge though, Fowler is probably best placed.
Fowler shared his love for Colonial Country Club after round two, so it’s little wonder why he’s inside the top-10 after two rounds.
However, there is one hole at Colonial that the 36-year-old American really isn’t keen on.
Hole at Colonial is Rickie Fowler’s least favourite tee shot on the PGA Tour
Fowler shot a sparkling round of six-under-par 64 on Friday, one that included a 29 on his front-nine (the back nine at Colonial).
The popular American will be desperate to get back inside the winner’s circle. His last win came in July 2023 and he has recorded just two victories over the past six years.
Fowler will fancy his chances of ending that winless run in Fort Worth this week.
However, he spoke to reporters after his second round and highlighted how difficult one hole at Colonial is for him.
The six-time PGA Tour winner said, “Yeah, got off to a nice start, which was great after posting even yesterday. I knew that the cut was probably going to be somewhere around there. Getting myself well inside that number was nice, especially when you have — you know, five is probably one of my least favourite tee shots on tour. I’ve done a good job the last two days with it, but there are a few spots where this course can get you, and that’s one of them.“
Fowler was then asked to explain exactly what he doesn’t like about the tee shot on the fifth hole.
He explained, “I don’t know if you’re going to find many guys that like the tee shot on five. Probably a little bit more inviting for a lefty. Typically wind is off the left. Hazard all down the right. Now you’ve got kind of thick junk up the left.
“If you hit a good one, it’s great and you get it in play up there. I only had 8-iron in today. I made a poor iron swing, but it’s kind of the more you take on off the tee, it can make the hole easier from there, but it’s just a good, tough hole. You have to step up and hit a good tee shot.“
Fowler needs a win desperately
Really, six PGA Tour wins is nowhere near enough for a player with Fowler’s talent.
He should easily be on double figures by now.
A win at Colonial Country Club would give Fowler a real shot of confidence, and then who knows?
Perhaps he could then go on and fulfil his undoubted potential.
There is still a long way to go at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and Fowler is five shots back.
However, a round in the mid-60s on Saturday would set him up perfectly heading into the final round at Colonial.
