Gary Player names the player he wants to win The PGA Championship this week, ‘he is a magician’

Gary Player took to his social media accounts on Tuesday night ahead of The PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Player is one of the greatest golfers to have ever played the game, having won nine majors including two PGA Championships.

Back in April, Player shared his desire for Rory McIlroy to win The Masters, and the South African obviously got his wish.

Now 89, Player is an absolute legend of the game, and he is well known for maintaining his fitness so that he can still play golf regularly.

He consistently shoots under his age and recently joked that he actually did it 3,072 times in a row.

Player is still very much involved with the PGA Tour and the major championships, and always keeps a close eye on what’s going on in world golf.

Now he has nailed his colours to the mast and shared whom he wants to be victorious at Quail Hollow this week.

Gary Player says he wants Jordan Spieth to win The PGA Championship

Jordan Spieth heads into the week at Quail Hollow with the opportunity to achieve golfing immortality.

He is a win at The PGA Championship away from completing the Grand Slam, but the bad news is that he hasn’t won a major in eight years.

Spieth has been in poor form over the past few years, and he seems to be a complete shadow of his former self.

However, there is no doubting that he still has the ability to compete at the very highest level of the game.

The 31-year-old just needs all aspects of his game to come together this week if he is to challenge for the Wanamaker Trophy.

And Player took to his X account to say that he is rooting for Spieth to bring home the trophy in North Carolina this week.

The nine-time major winner said, This week, I am rooting for Jordan Spieth to capture the career Grand Slam. I have been a big fan of Jordan for a long time and do feel he is one of the most talented golfers on Tour right now. He is a magician, especially around the greens. I’m getting nostalgic thinking about how close together Jack and I accomplished this feat, and Jordan and Rory could do it in the same year, which has never happened! It would be amazing for our game and amplify what it means to win all four Majors. Good luck to all the Touring and PGA professionals competing this week at Quail Hollow! GP.
