Scottie Scheffler Doesn’t Give a ‘Sh*t’ About PGA Tour Rankings Analyst Claims Amid Declining Form

Scottie Scheffler continued his stretch of elite consistency at the 2025 RBC Heritage, finishing T6 with a score of 8—his third consecutive top-10 finish following a solo fourth at the Masters. Despite not securing a win this season, Scheffler’s steady presence near the top of the leaderboards has reinforced his status as one of the most reliable performers on the Tour. His bogey-free 64 in the opening round at Harbor Town set the tone, but a couple of late stumbles kept him from seriously contending on Sunday.
“I came to the tournament because I had committed to it and with a purpose. I wanted to win. I didn’t come to be congratulated for the Masters and receive hugs, I wanted to win, and it’s a great satisfaction to have achieved it,” he stated after winning the event last year. But his 2025 season overall? Winless as of April. Then, at the 2025 Phoenix Open, Scottie Scheffler showed rare frustration after a rough 15th hole, slamming his club into his golf bag and knocking it to the ground. The outburst caught the attention of onlookers and fans online, with some questioning his professionalism and jokingly referencing his 2024 PGA Championship arrest, which had resulted in dropped charges. The golfer had only begun to climb the criticism ladder.
So, on a recent episode of the Dan on Golf podcast, one golf insider delivered a blunt assessment of Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 campaign, claiming the World No. 1 “doesn’t give a sh-t” about PGA Tour FedEx Cup standings—despite sitting third in the rankings. The conversation offered a broader critique of golf media narratives and gave context to where Scheffler stands relative to other top stars like Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas coming off the Masters and RBC Heritage. The talk turned to how top players are handling pressure this spring, with Ben Boskovich comparing McIlroy and Thomas. He noted that while Rory’s been chopping at that Grand Slam for a year, JT’s been sawing at a win for 18 months. JT saw it coming, Boskovich added. His win was “pure joy”. Rory? He nearly watched it “slip away from him again.”
Scheffler, two shots back before attempting a risky shot on the 15th at Harbour Town, has had a steady season with top-10 finishes, including a solo fourth at the Masters and T6 at the Genesis. Despite his consistency, the panel questioned how much these results truly matter to him. “Okay, honesty button ready? Honesty button—here it comes. Honesty button,” the host said. “I don’t think Scottie Scheffler gives a sh*t about a top 10 on the PGA Tour. Right? Like at this point he’s won… it’s very, very casual for him. He’s third in the FedEx Cup. I looked at it this morning and said, ‘Oh my god, it’s been a slow start for Scottie—he’s third in the FedEx Cup.’” Boskovich chimed in, “Still the betting favourite too—tied with Rory for Quail Hollow.”
The conversation praised Justin Thomas for his strong form, highlighting his RBC win and near-miss at the Valspar. “JT is really rounding into form,” the host noted. While McIlroy and Thomas have redemption arcs, Scheffler’s quieter, yet equally impressive, story shows he’s still elite, exuding the confidence of a man who doesn’t need the scoreboard to prove it.
Where is Scheffler headed next?
At the 2025 RBC Heritage, Scheffler admitted to feeling drained after his Masters win. He shanked a bunker shot on the third hole – rare for him- and blamed it on mental fatigue and overthinking his putts. He will have to build mental strength to pull through the upcoming events.
Next up is the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, a signature PGA Tour event and one of the season’s marquee stops. The Charlotte venue suits Scheffler’s precision-based game, with its demanding fairways and a back-nine stretch known as the “Green Mile” that rewards elite ball-striking. With Rory McIlroy—fresh off his Masters triumph and a four-time winner at Quail—and Justin Thomas finding form again, the showdown promises major-like intensity. Scheffler will be one of the clear favorites as he chases his first victory of 2025.
