Bryson DeChambeau announces big change after Masters heartbreak

Bryson DeChambeau is set to try something different in his quest for more Major glory.

Bryson DeChambeau could have a new set of golf clubs at the next Major after missing out on victory at the Masters last weekend. The American finished the Masters tied in fifth place alongside Im Sung-jae following a nightmare final round.

DeChambeau started the last day of action in Augusta just two strokes adrift of leader Rory McIlroy as both players eyed up their first Masters title. But the reigning US Open champion made a host of errors on the final day and had to rely on his putting endeavours to keep him in the mix. He eventually tailed off, with McIlroy sweeping to success after holding his nerve in a play-off with Justin Rose.

DeChambeau was clearly unhappy with some of his striking in Augusta and later explained: “For some reason I’m just not fully optimised.

“I get over it and I feel like I’m going to hit the heel and I try to pull across it and it just goes left on me.”

And the 31-year-old has now announced that new equipment is on the cards. “You’re going to see some new equipment here very, very soon, which hopefully will optimise my game to an even greater level,” he said this week. “Super excited about it, actually.”

DeChambeau uses a custom set of Avoda Golf prototype single length irons at present and pairs them with LA Golf Bryson Series graphite shafts. But he will be aiming to take his game to the next level when he does make his club upgrade.

The Californian, who plays on the LIV Golf tour instead of the PGA Tour, will have his next opportunity to win another Major in June at the PGA Championship, which will be played at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

And DeChambeau, who finished second to Xander Schauffele at last year’s edition of the tournament, may be tempted to give McIlroy the cold shoulder this time around after revealing the Northern Irishman blanked him during the final round of the Masters.
