Scottie Scheffler may be a two-time Masters champion but the 28-year-old has still had to come out and defend his unusual menu for the Champions Dinner, with the planned feast receiving staunch criticism

Defending Masters champion Scottie Scheffler has explained his choices for his controversial Champions Dinner menu.

The dinner is set to proceed on Tuesday evening. Yet Scheffler’s particular choice of fine dining was criticized when the menu was announced last month.

Scheffler’s Texan-inspired feast features cheeseburger sliders served ‘Scottie style’, chilli, steak and meatballs, inspired by how his dad used to make them.

While some have branded Scheffler’s nostalgic dinner a hit, with golfer-turned-influencer Paige Spiranac giving it a “10/10”, some fans have criticized the menu for its lack of sophistication. During his official champion’s press conference leading up to the event, Scheffler elaborated on his choices.

“I mean, I really love the appetizers,” he said. “I think my dad’s meatballs are on the menu, and the sliders are the way I like ’em. “It’s my favorite foods, haven’t quite changed too much but there’s a little bit, I would say, more kind of nostalgic stuff. I think there’s a meatball and ravioli type of dish that was always my favorite thing growing up.”

Several fans have slammed the $108 per-plate price, which, despite being the cheapest ever served at the prestigious dinner, has been viewed as extortionate given the food on offer.
