LIV Golf Miami saw Brooks Koepka deny President Trump request and star’s X-rated outburst

The fifth round of this year’s LIV Golf League comes to a head at Trump National Doral in Miami, which has hosted a number of notable moments over the past four years on the circuit

Trump National Doral will host the third and final leg of this weekend’s action at LIV Golf Miami on Sunday. And fireworks will be expected after the course has played host to a number of memorable moments in recent years.

Dean Burmester emerged victorious at last year’s Miami meet as he saw off 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia in a play-off to win his first LIV title. And there a number of names still yet to win on the Saudi-funded series who would love nothing more than to break their duck in Florida.

Brooks Koepka has made headlines in the past for turning down President Donald Trump in Miami, while one English star’s dirty mouth grabbed a different kind of attention. So here we look back down the years to pick out some of the tournament’s top moments as another competition comes to a crescendo.

Koepka rejects Trump request

It’s rarely recommended to turn down a sitting President, but former world No. 1 Koepka did just that at LIV Golf Miami in October 2022. It was then that the inaugural season of LIV came to a close at Trump National Doral, and the owner of the resort was in attendance for the finale.

And what better time to pick the brains of some of the best players on the planet in a bid to improve one’s game? Except Brooks wasn’t playing ball – not even with the now President of the United States.

“Brooks was fantastic… I was trying to learn from him,” said Trump at the time. “He didn’t give me any tips. He’s not going to give me any tips. He didn’t want me to beat him. But yeah, listen we had a great time. I always enjoy playing with him.”

Koepka was part of the first influx of LIV players to turn their back on the PGA Tour, reportedly paid $100 million for his trouble. And just as Trump likely wouldn’t reveal his tricks of trade, it’s only right the five-time major-winner has every right to keep his under wraps, too.
