Jim Nantz already knows what he will say on air if Rory McIlroy ends Masters drought

Rory McIlroy has been without a major victory since 2014, but is expected to be among the contenders at the 2025 Masters, with commentary legend Jim Nantz already planning his call

Famed sports commentator Jim Nantz has shared his three-word phrase for Rory McIlroy if he finally secures a career grand slam with a win at the 2025 Masters next week.

The Northern Irish golfer is hoping to end an almost 11-year major championship drought when he steps onto the green at Augusta, having not won since his second victory at the PGA Championship in 2014 – the same year he also clinched The Open Championship. His first major was the U.S. Open in 2011, but it’s been a long and painful wait for another.

Interestingly, McIlroy’s next shot at a major is at a venue where he’s yet to claim victory. A win at Augusta next weekend would not only be his first Masters title, but it would also complete his career grand slam, one of the highest honors in golf.

As he prepares for the Georgia-based tournament, the 35-year-old is arguably in the best form of his life. Two wins on the PGA Tour this year have already boosted his confidence ahead of the competition, while his T5 finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open last week has certainly helped.

Given his current form, McIlroy is among the favorites to win the 2025 Masters and if he does finally cross the finish line, Nantz knows exactly what he’ll say. During his appearance on the “Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday, the CBS Sports veteran was taken with Patrick’s suggestion of “Glory for Rory”.

“That’s not bad… I’m gonna tell you right now, glory for Rory, if he wins next week, it may not be the final putt call, but it will be said somewhere from the end of the competition to when we sign off the air,” Nantz declared. “Glory for Rory, I will be channeling you Dan at the moment, you have my word right now, if McIlroy wins, I’m gonna say something about glory for Rory.”
