Bryson DeChambeau voices true feelings toward Masters after infamous ‘par 67’ remark

LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau hasn’t always played his best golf at Augusta but is still looking forward to this year’s Masters – which starts in Georgia next week

Bryson DeChambeau has gushed over Augusta ahead of this year’s Masters, despite previously calling the course a par 67.

The reigning U.S. Open champion is looking to win his third major title and will be one of 12 LIV Golf stars competing at the Masters. He’s spoken highly of Augusta ahead of the first major of 2025, but he’s not always been so complimentary about the iconic course.

Back in 2020, DeChambeau suggested Augusta was an easy course by calling it a “par 67 for me” – even though the course is a par 72. The 31-year-old’s comments angered fans at the time, and he’s since admitted they were a “mistake” that he’s learned from.

Speaking at LIV Miami on Friday, DeChambeau was asked what he’s most looking forward to about the Masters. “I honestly love the atmosphere. It’s one of the most peaceful places,” he replied. “My favorite moment is when the sun is kind of setting and everybody has kind of gotten off the golf course and you’re just hitting golf balls by yourself or a couple other pros… and you see the sun going down.

“That’s what I look forward to a lot coming into next week, other than playing well and giving myself a chance. I really enjoy those moments after the round practicing hard into the night.”

DeChambeau’s recent comments are a far cry from his 2020 claim, when he said: “I’m looking at it (Augusta) as a par 67 for me because I can reach all the par fives in two, no problem. If the conditions stay the way they are, that’s what I feel like par is for me.”

DeChambeau was asked about that remark ahead of last year’s Masters. He replied: “I have a level of respect for this golf course that’s a little bit different than a couple years ago… Regarding the 67 comment, you mess up. I’m not a perfect person. Everybody messes up. You learn from your mistake, and that was definitely one.”
