Jordan Spieth makes worrying injury admission after PGA Tour setback

Jordan Spieth faced a challenging return to Torrey Pines, struggling with the left wrist he had surgery on last year during a brutal week at the Genesis Invitational. The three-time major champion failed to make the cut, citing the course’s demanding setup as a major test for his recovering wrist.

Spieth, who underwent tendon surgery on his left wrist in 2024, has shown promising signs of a comeback. Earlier this month, he secured his best PGA Tour finish in over a year, tying for fourth at the WM Phoenix Open. However, his momentum was halted in San Diego, where he finished six-over-par after two rounds and missed the weekend.

Despite the setback, Spieth remains optimistic after competing in three consecutive tournaments. He acknowledged that the thick rough and tough conditions at Torrey Pines took a toll, making him look forward to a much-needed break.

“It’s been a tough week on the wrist,” Spieth admitted. “After my shot on 16 yesterday, I wasn’t sure if I’d even finish the first round. I was OK to go today, but with the cold, wet weather and playing three weeks in a row, it wasn’t good for it.

“It beat it up pretty good, but I’m hoping a week off, some rest, and therapy will help. It’s just inflammation, so hopefully, it will go away. In the long run, pushing through this could be a good thing.”

Currently ranked No. 67 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Spieth faces a long road back to his peak form and regular contention in major championships. However, his strong start to the season has been encouraging, and he remains hopeful that bigger results are on the horizon.
