Charley Hull praises LPGA’s new slow play policy as ‘step in the right direction’
England’s Charley Hull has praised the Ladies Professional Golf Association for taking action in the war against slow play.
The 28-year-old, who fired a final round four-under-par 68 to tie for fourth in the PIF Saudi Ladies International at Riyadh Golf Club, commented on the announcement made by the LPGA after publishing a new policy on slow play earlier this week:
“It’s a step in the right direction and it was definitely needed. I think it could still be harsher but it’s a start.”
Why Charley Hull hates slow play
Hull was outspoken in her dislike of slow play at the end of 2024, calling the speed of play “ridiculous” after enduring a round that took 5 hours 40 minutes in Annika Sorenstam’s LPGA event in Florida.
“It’s really great that the women’s game are leading the way in this,” she added. “It’s what golf needs.”
What is the LPGA’s new Pace of Play policy?
The LPGA’s new Pace of Play policy includes lowered timing thresholds for stroke penalties and harsher fines for slow play. It was player-led and developed through an established Pace of Play Committee. It will take effect from the LPGA tour’s Ford Championship at the end of next month.
