Jay Monahan has message for Jordan Spieth and Xander Schauffele ahead of the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines

Jordan Spieth delivered a much-needed boost to the PGA Tour during last weekend’s WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale.

The three-time major champion remains a fan favorite, and his presence near the top of the leaderboard significantly heightened interest in the event.

Competing in only his second PGA Tour event since returning from injury, few expected such a strong performance from Spieth. Ultimately, the American finished tied for fourth, eight strokes behind runaway winner Thomas Detry.

Spieth is set to compete in this week’s Genesis Invitational, and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan discussed the former Masters champion during his pre-tournament press conference at Torrey Pines.

Jay Monahan’s Message to Jordan Spieth and Xander Schauffele

Reflecting on last week’s event in Phoenix, Monahan praised Spieth’s return to form and the exciting atmosphere at the tournament.

“One thing I’m most proud of from last week is the improvements made after last year’s security and logistical challenges,” Monahan said. “Chance Cosby, Matt Mooney, and the Thunderbirds team met with our Player Advisory Council, listened to the players, and made meaningful changes to enhance the experience for both fans and players.”

Monahan also acknowledged Detry’s impressive victory. “It was great to see Thomas Detry step up and win in the manner that he did. No one was surprised to see him contend after his performances last year.”

He further highlighted the strong performances from other top players. “Having Daniel Berger surge up the leaderboard on Sunday was great. And watching Jordan Spieth deliver his signature magic on the 11th hole was a real treat. We certainly loved seeing that.”

Monahan also took a moment to address the absence of world number two Xander Schauffele, who has been sidelined with an injury since the season opener at The Sentry.

“We’re here in San Diego, and I just want to acknowledge that we miss Xander Schauffele. We’re looking forward to his return and hoping he’s back to full health soon.”

Jordan Spieth Injury Update

Spieth’s strong showing at TPC Scottsdale was even more remarkable given that he is still recovering from wrist surgery. He admitted that his wrist locked up during the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and while the warmer conditions in Phoenix were beneficial, cooler weather could pose challenges for his recovery.

When Will Xander Schauffele Return?

Schauffele’s injury situation appears more concerning. According to Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis, the American initially aimed to return at the WM Phoenix Open. However, his absence from the Genesis Invitational suggests the injury may be more severe than previously thought.
