How Golfer Scottie Scheffler Made $104 Million in 2024

Scottie Scheffler had an unforgettable 2024 season on the golf course, dominating the competition with an impressive nine victories in 21 events. His wins included The Masters, tying him with Tiger Woods (2000) and Vijay Singh (2004) for the most wins in a season since 1950. The only hiccups in his year came off the course—a traffic incident at the PGA Championship and an unusual Christmas Day mishap while rolling ravioli dough.
His stellar season translated into massive earnings, pushing his total income to an estimated $104.3 million, including endorsements. This made him the 11th highest-paid athlete in the world, according to Sportico. He joined Tiger Woods as just the second golfer to surpass $100 million in a single year—without the help of LIV Golf’s massive signing bonuses. However, unlike Woods, whose earnings were largely endorsement-driven, Scheffler made the bulk of his money—$76.3 million—from prize money and bonuses, with an additional $28 million from sponsors.
Despite LIV Golf’s lucrative offers, Scheffler remained committed to the PGA Tour, which responded by significantly boosting prize money to retain its top players. In 2024, the Tour’s total payouts neared $680 million, up from $643 million the previous year. Scheffler’s dominance saw him claim $29.2 million in prize money from 19 official events, highlighted by seven wins and 16 top-10 finishes. He also secured a six-stroke victory at Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge, an unofficial event that earned him a $1 million payday. His Olympic triumph in Paris didn’t come with a huge payout, but he did collect a $37,500 bonus for his gold medal.
August saw the 28-year-old lock in the top spot in the Comcast Business Tour Top 10, earning an $8 million bonus. Just weeks later, he captured the Tour Championship, securing the FedEx Cup title and an additional $25 million in first-place bonus money.
After a well-earned three-month break—during which he endured a rough NFL season as a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan—Scheffler returned in December and immediately picked up where he left off. He won the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas and then teamed up with Rory McIlroy for The Crypto.com Showdown, an exhibition match against LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. The PGA Tour duo dominated, securing a $10 million prize paid out in cryptocurrency.
Scheffler’s 2024 season wasn’t just one for the record books—it was a financial and competitive triumph that cemented his status as one of golf’s all-time greats.
