Adam Scott issues verdict on PGA Tour plan to combat Scottie Scheffler complaint

Former Masters champion Adam Scott isn’t convinced the PGA Tour’s reported plans to change the format of the season finale would work.

The Athletic were the first to report officials at the North American circuit are planning to drastically change the format of the Tour Championship at East Lake.

It is understood that serious consideration is being given to revamp the Tour Championship into a ‘bracket-style’ event.

Currently, players in the 30-man tournament start with a predetermined score relative to par based on their position in the FedEx Cup.

Runaway World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has criticised the format and described it as ‘silly’.

“It’s hard to see where match play fits into pro golf,” Scott told Golfweek after the third round of The Sentry in Hawaii.

Scott is one of five directors on the PGA Tour‘s players advisory council.

The others are Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Webb Simpson and Tiger Woods.

Scott added: “We play the whole season one way and then have the final week be head-to-head match play.

“I mean, we can have a look at it, but you’d have to kind of sell me on that just a little more.”

The aforementioned Malnati also told Golfweek that he also believes the current format doesn’t do the season justice.

“I’m hopeful that we can do away with the starting strokes thing because I hate that that’s part of the conversation every year.

“I think it’s important that we maintain a season-long element to it. If you played a Scottie Scheffler season, you shouldn’t get to the Tour Championship and start even with everyone else.
