Scottie Scheffler capped a historic 2024 PGA Tour season by winning the Player of the Year award. The award is voted on by the Tour’s players, and Scheffler received 91 percent of the ballots cast.

Scheffler used his Instagram stories to send an emotional message of thanks. The post included a video showing footage of the world number one’s wins throughout the season, as well as the following text:

“Honored and grateful to be the 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year”

This is the third time Scottie Schefflerhas won the Jack Nicklaus Trophy as the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year. All three occasions were consecutive (2021, 2022, 2023).

Scheffler joins Tiger Woods as the only player to win the award in three or more consecutive seasons. Woods did it twice, once in five consecutive seasons and once in three, with only one season in between separating the feats.

Scottie Scheffler competed for the award against Xander Schauffele, who won two majors during the season, and Rory McIlroy, who won two tournaments, including a Signature Event. Upon receiving the award, Scheffler had this to say (via PGA Tour News Service):

“It’s tough to compare seasons but I think in terms of the amount of tournaments I won and with having a major championship, THE PLAYERS and the Olympics, I think when you look across the whole season I think it’s the best golf that I’ve played in my career.”

The current World No. 1’s most recent victory only solidifies his position as one of the modern greats of the sport. When we look back at his season, what is even more baffling is that Scheffler has managed a consistent spell of performances at some of the most competitive tournaments possible.
