Brooks Koepka mocked Rory McIlroy’s devastating loss to Bryson DeChambeau at the U.S. Open, which extended his decade-long wait for a major championship ahead of The Showdown

Brooks Koepka aimed a dig at Rory McIlroy as he took aim at his devastating loss to Bryson DeChambeau at the U.S. Open.

Ahead of The Showdown exhibition event, which pits the PGA Tour stars with their LIV Golf rivals at Shadow Creek Golf Course, Koepka made comments about the Northern Irishman as he spoke confidently about his team’s chances of victory.

McIlroy and Koepka will be on opposing sides as Scottie Scheffler joins McIlroy while DeChambeau is set to partner Koepka. McIlroy has not added to his four major titles in over 10 years after agonizingly missing out on the U.S. Open in June as he blew a lead on the final holes, bogeying three of the last four holes.

When asked about his team’s chances of winning, Koepka noted the higher major championship total that his side boast, adding to Golf Digest that the three younger players involved have won all nine of their majors since McIlory last lifted the 2014 PGA Championship.

Koepka was very complimentary of his team-mate DeChambeau as the two joked after Koepka coached a blindfolded U.S. Open champ. “Quirky, opinionated, but very passionate, very driven and very hard-working,” the five-time major winner said.

“Hard worker, too, by the way,” DeChambeau pointed back at Koepka before he revealed the extra work that his LIV team-mate puts in. “It’s funny, we have some of the same practice routines after a round. I’ve seen him hit golf balls for two hours.”
