WNBA star Caitlin Clark took part in pro-am tournament at the Pelican golf course on Wednesday and left with a request from the LPGA’s world number one Nelly Korda

Caitlin Clark has responded to golf star Nelly Korda’s request for a signed basketball after they were paired in a pro-am tournament.

The Indiana Fever guard attracted huge crowds to The Annika tournament, with plenty of basketball fans making a trip to the Pelican golf course in Florida. The event saw the ‘Caitlin Clark effect’ descend on the LPGA tour as the 22-year-old spoke to the crowd and signed autographs while making her way around the course.

Golf fan Clark spent her round with world number one Korda and tournament namesake Annika Sorenstam. Clearly, the admiration went both ways, with Clark leaving the event with an autograph request from Korda.

The Fever guard spent the front nine playing alongside Korda, who signed golf balls for Clark at the end of their time together. While writing the autographs, Korda told the LPGA, “I wish I had a basketball”, and the two-time major winner asked the question when handing Clark her souvenirs.

However, Korda also left The Annika without a memento of her own. The golfer and Clark swapped signed jerseys, and the mutual respect between the two superstars was on full display. The LPGA also surprised Clark with a sweatshirt she had messaged the organisation about back in 2021.

It didn’t all go perfectly for Clark, though, as she fired her tee shot on the ninth into the crowd and apologized to fans by gifting a signed golf ball. Reacting to the incident on her Instagram story, Clark wrote: “This is why you keep extras in the pockets”, along with purple devil and crying laughing emojis.

Reflecting on the day, Clark said: “It was so fun. Obviously, getting to see them do what they do up front, like people would pay for that. I got to do it for free and have fun with them. … Very lucky and fortunate. Hung in there, did alright. It was a good day.”

The Fever star also impressed Korda with her prowess on the golf course and handling the pressure of playing a different sport. “It was great to see how relaxed she was,” Korda said. “Obviously with the media attention she has gotten probably in the past year-and-a-half, two years, you can see how she’s comfortable playing in front of a larger crowd. And she was just really enjoying it. You can tell.

“She’s definitely very talented. She was picking the ball really clean. She was losing a couple shots to the right, but I asked her how many times a week she plays and I think with the amount of obligations she has she probably gets to the golf course once a week.”
