Jon Rahm opts not to enter one of favorite tournaments as LIV Golf fine row rumbles on

Jon Rahm has reportedly decided to skip the final event of the DP World Tour season as he continues to play hardball with the organisation over his membership

Jon Rahm has decided to give the DP World Tour Championship a missdespite having competed in the minimum four regular season events required to keep his membership. The Spanish golfer is also eyeing a spot on Luke Donald’s Team Europe for next year’s Ryder Cup.

Rahm secured his place at the DP World Tour Championship by ranking within the top 50 on the DP World Tour Rankings. The event, which boasts a hefty £8.2million prize fund, is the tour’s season finale and is exclusive to just 50 players.

Despite his record three wins at the Earth Course, making it one of his preferred tournaments, the 29-year-old has chosen to sit this one out. “Jon Rahm has not entered the DP World Tour Championship,” confirmed a spokesperson to Golf Magic.

Earlier this month, Rahm also skipped the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. His participation on the DP World Tour is currently conditional, pending an appeal against fines imposed for joining the controversial LIV Golf Tour last year.

“I’m not a big fan of the fines. I don’t intend to pay the fines and we keep trying to have a discussion with them (the DP World Tour) about how we can make this happen,” the two-time major winner expressed recently. “I intend to play in Spain. Whether they let me play or not is a different thing.”
