The latest edition of ‘The Match’ will see celebrities and athletes from other sports compete, with the PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars set to showdown in December

The latest installment of ‘The Match’ will feature a new twist, with celebrities and athletes from other sports set to compete instead of professional golfers. The exhibition series, which began in 2018, has seen nine contests so far, mostly featuring professional golfers.

Now, eight celebrities will vie for a $1 million prize in a two-night event starting on Thursday, Nov. 21 and ending on Friday, Nov. 22. The first night will see actor Bill Murray – who loves golfing in Ireland – and NHL legend Wayne Gretzky team up against NBA legend Charles Barkley and 13-time MLB All-Star Ken Griffey Jr.

On the second night, actor Mark Wahlberg, another fan of golfing in his ancestral home of the Emerald Isle, and Olympic legend Michael Phelps will go head-to-head with comedian Nate Bargatze and current NBA player Blake Griffin. The winners from each team will then face off in the semi-finals until only two celebrities remain, who will then compete in the final for the $1 million prize.

This event doesn’t replace the usual contest between professional golfers, as the ‘Showdown’ is scheduled for Dec. 17, reports the Mirror US. Billed as the PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf, the ‘Showdown’ comes amidst an ongoing rivalry between the two entities.
