Jordan Spieth laughed off hair loss talk after admitting barbershop mistake in Scotland

Jordan Spieth has previously joked about his receding hairline.

Jordan Spieth once opened up on a bad barbershop experience after fans raised theories about his new hairstyle at the 2018 Open Championship. Eagle-eyed golf viewers wondered if the receding American had undergone a hair transplant due to his new look.

Spieth finished five under par in Scotland and sat ninth in the overall leaderboard. Francesco Molinari became the Open Championship winner that year.

But fans were left wondering if Spieth had undergone surgery on his hairline after noticing he was sporting a different style to usual. The now-31-year-old batted away those suggestions, though, insisting he had just had a bad experience in a local barbershop.

He revealed that he was given a grade shorter on the sides than he would usually prefer.

“My hair got a little long, and I needed to get a haircut, so I did this morning,” Spieth explained to the PGA Tour.

“It was intended to be what I normally get, and instead he went a little shorter. Very British haircut. A little shaved on the sides, a little longer on top. It is what it is. Summertime, it works out.”

Spieth has often joked about his receding hairline, although he still boasts a head of hair. In 2015, he quipped that partner – now wife – Annie Verret – had more hair than him.

Congratulating Verret on her college career, he ended the caption of an Instagram post with the hashtag: “More hair than me.”

US comedian Larry David joked a year later that Spieth would be completely bald by the time he was 25. “He’s going to be a bald man,” David joked to Golf Digest. “He’s going to be wildly bald. This makes him way more appealing to me.

It’s one thing to handle the pressure of the back nine at Augusta. Let’s see how he does when he sees all that hair in the tub. That’s pressure. I’ll be watching him very carefully. He’s 22. He’s got three years, maybe four. He’s done.”
