Is Tiger Woods Retired? After His Latest TGL Decision, Answering Most-Obvious Doubt Everyone Have in Mind
So, the whole golf world is on about one and only one question, has the GOAT retired from the sport? Tiger Woods’s recent decision to sit out the inaugural week of his own golf league, TGL, has sparked speculation about his future in the sport. Yes, when the TGL kicks off in January at West Palm Beach’s sleek SoFi Center, golf fans might be surprised to find that the league’s two biggest draws, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy won’t be teeing off in week one.
However, a bunch of other popular golfers will showcase their skills like the New York Golf Club which is led by Xander Schauffele, Cam Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Rickie Fowler, and The Bay Golf Club which features Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee, and Shane Lowry. So, is the 48-year-old golf legend finally hanging up his clubs? Well, not quite.
It’s only fair for the fans to wonder this as the golfer is not playing in his own league, but don’t count him out just yet because we have the explanation. Woods’s absence from week one is actually a savvy move as he is trying to capitalize on the massive audience tuning in for the NFL’s final wild card weekend game, by debuting in week two. That’s some genius planning right there. However, this doesn’t mean the golfer isn’t planning on saying goodbye to the game because it’s all part of his transition into semi-retirement, where he’ll focus on select tournaments and projects that really matter, per Golf.com.
TGL represents the future of golf – a fusion of tech, entertainment, and competition for Woods and he’s all-in on making it a success. So, what does this mean for Woods’ future? Well, for starters he’s not done yet because semi-retirement doesn’t mean retirement, it means Tiger Woods 2.0. However, as much as the fans are excited to see the golfer, they’re not so happy about the ticket pricing for the upcoming action.
TGL ticket prices face fan backlash
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s brainchild has sparked outrage among golf fans due to its steep ticket prices. The league has been starting one controversy after another because of all the changes it is bringing to the golf world. The league which is launching on January 7, will host 15 regular season game-weeks at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach. However, attendance comes at a hefty cost with general admission tickets priced at $160!
And we know golf fans, they surely took to social media to express their discontent. “What are we doing charging over $40? Nobody is asking for this, let alone $160. I’d rather play real golf,” one fan tweeted. Others echoed similar sentiments by questioning the value of watching simulated golf. “They’re charging to watch SIM golf?” and “$160? Maybe $16” were among the criticisms, per the Mirror. Well, the reason why ticket prices are so high at TGL is because the league combines two premium offerings, elite talent and modern technology. The TGL features some of the world’s best golfers, including PGA Tour stars like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and other top players. Additionally, the league features a revolutionary high-tech setup that includes a massive 64 ft x 53 ft simulator screen, three virtual greens, and 3,800 sq ft of putting space which are all powered by Full Swing technology. What do you think about the ticket prices at TGL? Do you agree with the fans? Let us know in the comment section below!
