Rory McIlroy set to bank huge sum in Showdown against LIV rivals while Scottie Scheffler will earn more than Masters win

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are set to earn an incredible amount of money in a never-seen-before event later this year.

The PGA Tour superstars will be coming up against LIV Golf rivals Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a brand new competition

Specifically created for TV, the meeting between the four golfers has been dubbed ‘The Showdown’and will be broadcast on TNT Sports in mid-December.

They will play 18 holes at the Shadow Creek golf course in Las Vegas but it won’t be for any prize money.

Not that they’ll be needing any added onto their reported appearance fees…

According to Dan Rapaport, McIlroy, Scheffler, DeChambeau and Koepka will all be receiving $4million each just for playing.

That sum is said to be guaranteed for each player and when compared to prize pots on tour, it’s a massive amount.

$4million is more than winning a major would get you.

So Scheffler is going to earn more by just turning up to this special event than when he won The Masters last year ($3.6million).

McIlroy will also be earning more than if he won any of the signature events on the PGA Tour too.

For DeChambeau and Koepka, they’d usually claim a $4million prize for winning a LIV event but now they will get that for just participating against the PGA pair.

‘The Showdown’ will mark a significant step in relations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf as their biggest stars combine.
