Presidents Cup public spat between two players is golf’s latest show of unprofessionalism

Team USA got their hands on yet another Presidents Cup title at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada last week, and it was a far from quiet week at the matchplay event

The 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club was one of the most eye-catching editions of the event for some time, but this was not for all the right reasons.

For the 10th-straight Presidents Cup, it was Team USA who came away with victory, defeating their International rivals 18.5-11.5 following a dominant performance in the Sunday singles session. Like any matchplay clash, the competitive streak brought the best out of those competing, but some went very close and even passed the line.

On day one, the rivalry between the two teams was clear to see just a few holes in. Tom Kim found himself at the center of the drama, letting his opponent – and good friend – Scottie Scheffler know when rolling in a birdie putt.

The world No. 1 was quick to respond, sinking his own birdie for the putt, vocal in his reply to the South Korean star. A war of words in a matchplay showdown? More than acceptable. This has become part and parcel of both the Ryder Cupand Presidents Cup and is often no more than a healthy rivalry.
