Jon Rahm (flu symptoms) WDs from Team Championship; replaced by John Catlin

Jon Rahm withdrew from this weekend’s LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship due to severe flu-like symptoms.

The team announced the news Saturday morning prior to Legion XIII’s semifinal matchup against Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC.

Jon has been experiencing severe flu symptoms the last few days,” according to the Legion XIII statement released on the team’s social channels. “In the best interest of his team and under the advise of his medical team, he will not be playing this weekend.

“He will continue to provide full support to his team.”

Reserve player John Catlin replaces Rahm in the Legion lineup and will take on the HyFlyers’ Cameron Tringale in singles at Maridoe Golf Club. Tyrrell Hatton will face Andy Ogletree in the other singles match, while Caleb Surratt and Kieran Vincent face Mickelson and Brendan Steele in foursomes.

The loss of Rahm, in his first season on LIV Golf, will be difficult to overcome. Last week at LIV Golf Chicago, the 29-year-old Spaniard won his second tournament of the season while clinching the season-long Individual Championship.

Catlin, however, has played admirably during his five reserve appearances this season. Playing for Crushers GC in his first four starts, he tied for seventh in Nashville. In his most recent start at Greenbrier, he played for Smash GC and helped them win the team tournament trophy that week.

Catlin is the current points leader in the International Series standings and the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

Legion XIII is the No. 2 seed in Dallas and won a league-high four tournaments during their inaugural season. But they are facing a 12th-seeded HyFlyers team that comes off an upset win over 5th-seeded Torque GC in the quarterfinals.

The four winning teams in the semifinals will play for the 2024 Team Championship on Sunday, with all scores counting in stroke-play competition.
