The American team succeeded in taking revenge on the European team. As Stacy Lewis, the team captain went ahead to lift the trophy, she turned back and handed over the Cup to Lexi Thompson. When asked why it was so important for the latter to win this year, Lewis replied, “Because she deserves that moment. I think she was kind of one of those first players to get that first tee going loud and going crazy, and I think the Solheim Cup is what it is because Lexi started that, and she started with that energy.” She then continued, “All of my favorite Lexi memories are at the Solheim Cup. I’m just super proud of her. I know today was hard. It was a hard day for her emotionally, I think. Just proud of her fight. She’s been a leader of this team for a long time.
