FM Championship to return to the LPGA schedule next year

Ko After Labor Day weekend success, the inaugural tournament in Boston will return next season.

Last weekend, golf returned to the New England region for the first time in 20 years. TPC Boston hosted the FM Championship on the LPGA Tour over the Labor Day weekend. The tournament saw South Korean golfer Ryu Hae-Ran win for the second time on tour.

Ran won on the first hole of a playoff against fellow Korean golfer Jin Young Ko. The tournament also saw Lexi Thompson collect her seventh top 25 of the year. The 11-time winner on tour announced her retirement earlier in the year. She finished in a tie for 15th.

The tournament was such a success for both the New England region and the LPGA that the tour has already announced it will return next season. Despite being the inaugural event, it was one of the five LPGA tournaments that was available to stream on ESPN Plus. The LPGA and ESPN had reached a two-year deal to stream five events throughout the season.

The FM Championship was one of the best-selling competitions of 2024

The purse for the event itself was $3.8 million. FM also provided a $1,000 stipend to any golfers for hotel expenses if they missed the cut on Friday. The company had signed Megan Khang as an ambassador earlier in the year. Khang finished in a tie for 35th during the tournament.

In a joint statement with the LPGA Tour, Malcolm Roberts, chairman and chief executive officer for FM, said he is excited to continue the tournament. “We are thrilled to return to TPC Boston for the 2025 FM Championship. Over the last week, this world-class venue provided an amazing experience for the athletes, fans and New England community,” he said.

The LPGA has already put up a sign-up sheet for the tournament for 2025. It could lead to a long partnership and an important tournament date at the end of the season for years to come.
