After Teasing Marriage Plans, Lexi Thompson Hints at Potential Return to LPGA Post-Retirement: ‘Might Tee It Up..’

Lexi Thompson’s golf life started when she was just seven and in the next 23 years, the soon-to-be-30 became a name-defining success on the greens and an inspiration for many. However, come the 2024 season, the 11-time LPGA Tour winner decided to bid her professional career farewell and look for life in other things as she hinted at starting a family and getting married.

This decision shocked many fans, as it meant that the 2024 season was the last time Thompson would be seen at the LPGA Tour events. But that might not be the case. In an interview with Golf.com, the host Jessica Marksbury asked the LPGA star if winning again on the LPGA Tour as many events are still there in the season, would change her mind.

Thompson explained that it wouldn’t make her change the decision. And just because she has announced retirement, it doesn’t mean she isn’t thinking about winning. It has been five years since Thompson’s last win. The 29-year-old expressed that every time she tees it up, she still wants to win, and if that was not the case, “That’s time to really shut it down,” added Thompson.

But here comes the good news, Thompson reassured her fans that the 2024 season might not be the last time she plays professionally. The 1-time major winner said, “I’m just stepping away from a full-time schedule. I might tee it up a few more times next year but you know I’m going to take time for myself time away and if I feel good about it, you know, a lot more life to be lived, and if I don’t I still want to tee it up and play in front of my fans.”

So, even though retirement is imminent for Thompson, in 2025 there might be a chance that she will play again, just not the full schedule. As taking time for herself and starting a family takes priority in Thompson’s life, there is one more thing that she would be focusing on after leaving the greens.
