Scottie Scheffler or Xander Schauffele: Who has had the better FedEx Cup Playoffs results so far?

As the FedEx Cup Playoff finale approaches, the debate over who is the best player of the season is also nearing its conclusion. Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are two frontrunners for both the FedEx Cup trophy and the PGA Tour Player of the Year award.

While Schauffele is competing in his eighth straight FedEx Cup playoff, Scheffler is back for the fourth consecutive time. However, both have yet to win the ultimate title.

In terms of overall playoff performance, Schauffele has outperformed Scheffler in the season finale so far. In his seven appearances prior to this year, he made five top-five finishes and finished as the runner-up three times. The 2017 Tour Championship is his only win in the playoffs so far.

Overall, Schauffele has missed the cut only twice in all the playoff events in his career, and both of those came at the FedEx St. Jude Championship (formerly known as the Northern Trust).

As for Scottie Scheffler, this marks the third straight year he has entered the FedEx Cup Playoffs as No. 1 in the rankings, but he has yet to find success. He has just one top-five finish in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and last year, he slipped five spots to sixth after a poor playoff performance.

Scottie Scheffler didn’t miss a single cut and recorded 15 top-ten finishes in seventeen starts. In addition to his six wins, he also finished as the runner-up in a couple of events.

While Scheffler went on a winning spree this season, Xander Schauffele also made the season memorable, especially in the latter half. He made the cut in all nineteen of his starts this year and recorded an impressive 13 top-ten finishes.

Schauffele ended his two-year winning drought at the PGA Championship and then went on to win the Open Championship. With this feat, he became the first player in six years to win two majors in a single season.
