Bryson DeChambeau Gets Ruled Out of $18M Payout Chance, Turning His Terrific Major Run Pointless

One might think finishing under the top 10 in the two majors and winning one out of all the four majors as a LIV golfer is an incredible feat. Yes, it undoubtedly is. However, despite the incredible run in the year, Bryson DeChambeau already missed out on the opportunity to fulfill his patriotic dreams at the Paris Olympics, and now he could be missing out on something else.

It’s not a tournament that the golfer is missing out on due to OWGR restrictions, but rather a title—the LIV Golf Individual Championship, which grants a hefty bonus of $18 million. But why?

Bryson DeChambeau’s team has a better chance than he does

DeChambeau started this year with a bang. He finished T6 at the Masters, T2 at the PGA Championship, and claimed victory at the US Open dramatically after defeating Rory McIlroy by one stroke. Yes, he did miss the cut at the Open Championship, but this run wasn’t bad by any means. Despite the achievements, the scientist cannot win the LIV Golf individual championship and take $18 million home as he isn’t in the top three of the LIV Golf standings.

These standings consider performances in all the LIV Golf events throughout the year. Considering that currently, Joaquin Niemann is at the top with two victories and seven top-10 finishes out of 11 events, accumulating 189.40 points so far, As for the US Open champion, he has no LIV Golf wins to his name this season and six top-10 finishes and is in 8th position with 91.16 points. There is one more thing worth noting: DeChambeau’s team, Crusher GC, is at the top of the team standings with 175.50 points.

It doesn’t mean that the Crusher GC can automatically win the LIV Golf team championship. However, they will have some extra benefits. The LIV Golf Team Championship will commence from September 20th to September 22nd. 13 teams will compete for the title, with the top three teams receiving first-round byes and automatically qualifying for Saturday’s semifinals.
