Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson Share Mutual Respect for Each Other at Pelican Championship

Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson have overpowered the field at Belleair, Florida, to snag the top spot on the leaderboard after the first three rounds at the Pelican Women’s Championship. The two share the lead coming into the final round of the penultimate event on the LPGA Tour and are ready to battle it out for the win.

After a couple of low-scoring rounds and countless birdies becoming a highlight of the event, there is a tight rush to the top. Defending champion Sei Young Kim is two strokes behind, and others like Jennifer Kupcho, Lydia Ko, and Leona Maguire are not far off.

However, the co-leaders will bag the spotlight coming into Sunday. Meanwhile, despite obvious competitiveness, the two have only pleasant praises for one another.

Both the golfers were interviewed post the Saturday round and there was one similarity; there was some genuine respect for the other. When Korda was asked how she’ll proceed in order to win and whether she’ll try to swing it harder, she replied negatively. She added that the two are pretty much the same in terms of distance.

This event will finalize the race to CME rankings, with the top-60 advancing to the ultimate event, the CME Group Tour Championship. Boasting of the largest purse in women’s golf, a prize money of $1.5 million is at stake for the winner. Moreover, Korda is just a couple of hundred points behind Jin Young Ko, the leader, currently T-11 at the penultimate event.
