Why isn’t Scottie Scheffler playing in the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open?

Scheffler had been due to play at The Renaissance Club but pulled out one week before The Open Championship 2024 at Royal Troon.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is the red-hot favourite to win next week’s 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, despite the fact he will go into the last major of the year having not played a competitive round of golf for a month after skipping the the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 record: wins, top 10s, missed cuts…

The 28-year-old has won six times in 15 starts in 2024, finishing in the top 10 an incredible 13 times. Scheffler hasn’t missed a cut in almost two years, since the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August 2022.

The two-time Masters champion has therefore established himself as the world’s best player by some distance, but will a four-week break have disrupted his momentumby the time The Open gets underway?

The reason Scheffler pulled out of the Scottish Open

Scheffler’s worst performance of the seasonso far came at the last major, the 2024 US Open in mid-June.

Prior to the tournament, he admitted he was mentally exhausted having become a fatherat the start of May, got arrested at the PGA Championship the following week (charges were later dropped) and won The Memorial, which took place immediately before the US Open.

He has stuck to his word ahead of this year’s Open Championship. Scheffler had originally been due to take part in the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open but has instead opted to recharge his batteries and prepare at home.

The New Jersey native has played at The Renaissance Club on three previous occasions, finishing T12 in 2021, missing the cut in 2022 and T3 in 2023. His best performance in The Open is a tie for 8th in 2021, which he followed with ties for 21st and 23rd.
