Robert MacIntyre reveals what he thought first after being beaten by Rory McIlroy at the Scottish Open last year

Robert MacIntyre will reunite with Rory McIlroy at the Scottish Open this week, a year on from their dramatic showdown at The Renaissance Club.

MacIntyre, born near Glencruitten, hit a stunning final round 64 in North Berwick last year to post a score of 14-under-par.

His round included a stunning birdie on the 18th hole where the Scot hit a miraculous shot from the rough and through the gusty wind to land it just three foot from the pin.

Unfortunately for MacIntyre, McIlroy had yet to finish and was on a charge down the back nine.

The four-time major winner secured a brilliant birdie on his penultimate hole to draw level with MacIntyre.

And stepping up to the wind-battered 18th, McIlroy struck a two-iron stinger from 202 yards out, pumping it low to find the green.
