However, for a brief moment, the golf community hoped he might secure his first win in two years this past weekend.

After struggling to break into the top 40 for two rounds at the John Deere Classic, Jordan Spieth finally surged into the top 12 with an impressive 8-under 63. Yet, his performance faltered in the final round. Despite scoring four birdies, he finished with a 1-under 70, ultimately placing T26. It seems the spark was fleeting indeed.

A few hours after the conclusion of the John Deere Classic, the golf fan page @TeeTimesPub took to their official X (formerly Twitter) account, sharing a disheartening statistic about Jordan Spieth’s recent performances. They tweeted, “TW: Shocking Statistic. Over his last 15 tournaments, Jordan Spieth has not finished closer than 13 shots off the winning score.”

Jordan Spieth’s last top-10 finish was back in February at the WM Phoenix Open, but shortly after, he faced a setback. At the Genesis Invitational, he was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard after the second round.

Adding to his struggles, he has missed the cut in five events, including the first men’s Major. In subsequent majors, he finished outside the top 40 (T41, T43). Jordan Spieth needs to regain his form quickly, or he risks losing his foothold in the golf world.

Golf community’s ultimatum for Jordan Spieth

All Jordan Spieth fans are increasingly disheartened by his recent downturn over the past few months. Witnessing his statistics, many feel there’s little hope left for a comeback from the former World No. 1 golfer.

Some speculate that the responsibilities of family life might be distracting Spieth. He and Annie Verret have two young children: Sammy, born in November 2021, and Sophie, born in September 2023, adding significant responsibilities to his life.

While a few fans try to console Spieth with comments like, “Having a rough year it happens” and “Hope he can get it going again,” most are no longer sympathetic. Spieth turned pro in 2012 and in 12 years has only managed thirteen wins on the PGA Tour, including three major championships: the 2015 Masters, the 2015 U.S. Open, and the 2017 British Open.

Another fan criticized Spieth’s pre-shot routine, which was once a topic of discussion in the golf world. Before striking the ball, Spieth takes his club back and pauses midway through the backswing, then continues back and slides his hands forward before striking. The fan believes this routine needs to evolve, stating, “His pre-shot routine just isn’t awkward enough. Needs to add something that looks even less like a natural movement.”

With the Genesis Scottish Open approaching this weekend, Spieth still has an opportunity for redemption. However, this will require significant changes and a shift in his approach. Echoing this sentiment, one follower suggested, “He needs to shake things up on his team.”
