Scottie Scheffler continued his remarkable 2024 season with victory at the Travelers Championship in what is his sixth PGA Tour triumph in 10 starts.

Matthew Fitzpatrick couldn’t help but jest about his own golfing pursuits in the wake of Scottie Scheffler’s staggering sixth PGA Tour victory this year.

The reigning Masters champion pocketed a cool £2.85million after edging out Tom Kim in a nail-biting climax at the Travelers Championship on Sunday (June 23). Scheffler’s latest triumph marks his sixth PGA Tour win in a mere 10 appearances in what has been a dominant 2024 for the American.

His latest victory prompted a humorous five-word reaction from 2022 US Open winner Matthew Fitzpatrick on X that perfectly encapsulated Scheffler’s stranglehold on the competition, reports the Mirror.

Already boasting wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, The Masters, RBC Heritage, and the Memorial this season, Scheffler’s supremacy since adopting a mallet putter was highlighted in a social media post, to which Fitzpatrick quipped: “We do we even bother.”

Clearly intending to say “why do we even bother,” the British golfer adorned his tweet with a mix of laughter and tears emoji. Fitzpatrick’s light-hearted comment sparked amusement among fans, with one Twitter user responding: “Decent prize money for second I suppose…” While another chimed in: “As Kisner says, there’s a lot of dough for a top 20.”

With his weekend victory, the double major champion has become the first golfer since the legendary Arnold Palmer in 1962 to clinch six titles before July on the PGA Tour. This feat further cements his position as the world number one and bolsters his lead in the FedExCup rankings.

After clinching the title, Scheffler was quick to acknowledge his competitor’s valiant effort, stating: “It has been a great season, I’ve been fortunate to come away with some wins and it has been a lot of fun. Tom played his heart out today. He’s a great player, great champion and it was fun battling with him today”.
